In 2009 the Denver Theatre District was initiated to enliven a 16-block area of downtown Denver through interactive, immersive and experimental arts and culture events and experiences. The initial phase of the District was focused on integrating large-scale public artwork billboards representing Denver’s vibrant visual art community, with strategic positions within the district. The following billboards, and others, upon the launch of the district in 2009. Artworks were primarily chosen for how they could fit the formats of the positions allocated, and how they might best represent Colorado’s growing and increasingly reputable visual arts community.
