Denver Digerati is the singular, highly distinguished project I had the honor of initiating and carrying forward for over a decade, one with an unusual history that I am currently engrossed in constructing a comprehensive narrative for future publication. I founded Denver Digerati as a personal project in 2013 while serving as the Creative Director for the Denver Theatre District. It was intended as an initiative developed to support digital animation and motion artists who were primarily focused in utilizing technology to create works of extraordinary imagination, forged under the rare premise of having direct access to public LED displays that were being placed into the core of the downtown Denver Theater District. The initial goal was to present art based activations utilizing a new and growing infrastructure of LED screens in a meaningful capacity. I never would have imagined upon the inception of this work in 2010 that it would dominate my attention and evolve years later into a robust annual festival in support of a new and rapidly evolving global artist network, becoming the most significant project I’ve developed fully from the ground up. I would leave Denver Digerati behind in late 2022, turning it over to new leadership under its new guise as a nonprofit arts organization. The transition to that status coincided with the Covid19 pandemic and a whole new set of health issues I realized would require my full attention and prevent me from continuing further.
Through the years heading the project I had the profound opportunity to commission as well as showcase the work of hundreds of artists, in advance of and later in association with the annual Supernova Digital Animation Festival, the keystone community event drawing from a distinguished network of international artists which ran for 7 years. The festival was noted in 2022 as one of the top 10 annual events for animators to attend by BUSINESS OF ANIMATION, an accolade that followed a robust Press History that had developed while I was at the helm, when press was still a potent force for cultural credibility.
Denver Digerati branding video 2013
Denver Digerati’s historic timeline follows below, with primary reference categories for the project sprinkled across that offer a brief glimpse into the visual tenor of offerings hosted through Denver Digerati and numerous collaborators. There is so much information to convey within Denver Digerati’s deeper history under my leadership, creating a website that could properly capture it all was never easy from the start. It is a continual work in progress here with more to be added as time and my patience allow.

NYU TISCH SCHOOL OF THE ARTS Methodologies in Curating Contemporary Digital Animation, Guest Lecture for TIsch Department of Digital Arts, NYC, NY.
PRATT INSTITUTE New Frontiers with Digital Animation through Public Display, Guest Lecture for Pratt Department of Digital Arts, NYC, NY 2020
The onset of the COVID19 pandemic shut down and changed the world two days following my guest lecture presentations in NYC. I returned to Denver to figure out how to function with a new team and board thereafter, pivoting the annual Supernova Festival in a capacity where it could continue with a safe, altered live in-person focus as well as a robust online capacity, leveraging the recently employed Supernova Streaming Service as a portal for global participation and community support. It worked, sort of. We tried so many things that year, an impressive attempt to show that the greater effects of the pandemic would not necessarily alter our platform in the same capacity it might others, albeit with almost no budget whatsoever.
SUPERNOVA DIGITAL ANIMATION FESTIVAL 5th annual Digital Animation Festival “World on Fire,” Denver, CO. New commissioned digital motion artwork program launched in conjunction with Night Lights Denver, along with massive Silent Screen Initiative.
I would make the difficult decision following Supernova World on Fire to disband the initial board and some members of the team in order to continue to pursue a pure version of the festival that I felt was at the heart of the project. Viva la Supernova!

2022
SUPERNOVA DIGITAL ANIMATION FESTIVAL 7th annual Digital Animation Festival “7th Dimension,” Denver, CO.
This would be the final version of the festival known as Supernova under my creative vision and authority. Denver Digerati continues under different leadership that I had engaged under the auspices of a nonprofit arts organization. The group continues to propel the artist network and select premises of the initial platform forward as the era for digital and new media artists continues to flourish and evolve in transcendental fashion. I realized only after exiting the organization that the majority of the unique history, growth and aesthetic I had worked to develop would otherwise be lost in the shuffle.

Denver Digerati Manifesto 2022
Denver Digerati reached a transition point in 2022, following the 7th and final iteration of Supernova. Insurmountable budget combined with concerning health challenges had descended on my life, riding on the heels of the Covid19 pandemic, forcing me to take stock of the initiative and its recently updated status as a nonprofit organization, not exactly my forte during my time spent in the arts. I was fortunate to have cultivate new leadership during my last two years on the project, allowing the organization to continue in a somewhat similar capacity but with new ideas and focus. Unfortunately the shift resulted in the eventual removal of the history that had been developed across the first nine years from the organization’s website. The limited archive presented here hopefully manages to express the unusual origins and creative dynamic that allowed the project to blossom in a thoroughly distinct and unforeseen manner.
